Foteini Michalopoulou

PhD candidate, Imperial College London

I work with Dr. Maria Papathanasiou at the Sargent Center for Process Systems Engineering.

My research is focused on developing digital tools for the design, optimisation, and control of complex separation systemswith a particular emphasis on real-time applications in continuous biomanufacturing. My current work explores:

  • Bayesian optimisation for hyperparameter tuning in surrogate models.
  • Data-driven and hybrid modelling for online process optimisation.
  • Reinforcement learning for real-time adaptive control of dynamic systems.

Driven by the need for adaptable and transparent decision-making tools, I design intelligent computational frameworks that combine domain insight with machine learning to tackle challenges in continuous biomanufacturing.

My research is supported by the Burkett Scholarship.
